  • Vinyl LP - Secret Museum of Mankind - Guitars Vol. 1: Prologue to Modern Styles
    Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

The Secret Museum of Mankind - Guitars Vol. 1: Prologue to Modern Styles, is available on vinyl, in a beautiful gatefold package. Purchase of the vinyl also include a download code.

The package includes a liner notes booklet by curator Pat Conte, original drawings of rare and unique guitars in Conte’s collection, by artist Jeff Tocci, and beautifully remastered audio by Don Fierro.

Additionally, the interior gatefold design features a selection of historic images of guitarists, also curated by Conte and drawn from his collection.

    From the Press:

“Exquisite flamenco, Greek solo bouzouki, Ghanaian highlife, Hindustani steel guitar and much more. Like many of the original volumes in the series, the music hops the globe; yet, because of the focus on guitar and guitar-adjacent instruments, the sounds here feel more homogenous than some of his other collections. A Paraguayan guitarist apparently playing “taps” doesn’t seem all that far off from the playful whines coaxed from South African spoon guitarist Moses Zwe Zwe. In fact, you might be excused for thinking his music is Hawaiian. Elsewhere, there’s a Canadian proto-rock and roll guitar duet and Italian Greek guitar rebetika mastery.“
    — Bruce Miller, Roots World

"The album succeeds by gathering often stunning recordings that are different yet complement each other. Pierre Borel & Polo Quilici's ‘Complainte Corse’ is delicate and arch while Cuarteto Aguilar's ‘Fiesta Mora en Tánger’, which follows it, is brilliantly odd, akin to a film soundtrack with its dramatic shifts in tempo and intense rhythms. "
    — Garth Cartwright, Songlines

“The Secret Museum Of Mankind is always a pretty amazing series -- one that really opens up our understanding of sounds from the early days of recorded music! And this time around, that legacy is maybe even more important -- as the collection pulls together work from rare 78s that hint at guitar sounds and styles that would come into play much more often in years to come -- amazing music from a wide array of global sources, just about all of which we might have missed, were it not for the curatorial talents of the label!”
